In this story:

This season, the New York Giants' offensive line gave up the most sacks in the NFL this season and did so by a large margin.

The Giants gave up 85 sacks on the season; the team closest to them in that category allowed 20 fewer sacks than the Giants. The 85 sacks allowed by New York's offensive line ranked as the most a team has given up in 26 years and the second-most ever allowed in the history of the National Football League.

While there were various reasons for their dismal season, it led to the Giants parting ways with former Offensive Line Coach Bobby Johnson after two seasons. Former Las Vegas Raiders Offensive Line Coach Carmen Bricillo replaced Johnson.

Over the last two seasons in Las Vegas, Bricillo guided the Raiders' offensive line to consecutive seasons of reliable play while dealing with many similar issues plaguing the Giants, albeit on a much smaller level. The Raiders offensive line faced injuries, subpar play by multiple offensive threats, and injuries to their quarterback, yet Bricillo still maximized their play.

Bricillo coached an offensive line that paved the way for Raiders running back Josh Jacobs to lead the league in rushing last season. They returned nearly the same offensive line this season, and Jacobs was near the top of the league in rushing yards before missing the last few games of the season with an injury. Those two seasons displayed Bricillo's potential enough for the Giants to hire him.

He will now have arguably the most challenging job since entering the NFL with a Giants offensive line that could see plenty of new faces at the start of next season. This could work in Bricillo's favor, depending on what New York decides to do in the NFL Draft and free agency.

The Giants' offensive line has a fresh start with a new positions coach in Bricillo. New York's front office must first find the right players who can stay healthy to repair their offensive line. Until then, the position coach won't matter. It is the National Football League, and teams with the best and healthiest talent will usually win the game.

As they say, Jimmy's and Joe's decide games, not X's and O's.
