The New York Jets are already looking ahead, and they have 2020 vision when it comes to head coach Adam Gase.

There will be another year of Gase, the embattled Jets head coach is now expected to return in 2020. Jets owner Christopher Johnson spoke on Wednesday to the media, leaving zero wiggle room when it comes to Gase’s future with a team that is currently 2-7.

“I want to assure you, there will be no changes in coaches,” Johnson said during a brief meeting with reporters during practice. “Adam has the trust of this team, he has the trust of Sam, he has Joe’s trust, he has my trust. He’s a good man, a good coach."

The Jets are committed to Gase long-term, the owner said, even as he admitted “there’s a lot of work to do.” He also ended his opening statement by saying he feels good about the team’s overall direction. This direction presumably includes quarterback Sam Darnold.

Gase, whose background as an offensive coordinator made him a natural fit as head coach of a team with a young quarterback, appears to have the confidence of Darnold as well as Jets ownership.

“This team isn’t where we thought it’d be,” Johnson said on Wednesday.

“And the thing that is most encouraging is that there’s never been a moment of finger-pointing, there’s never been a moment where somebody cast blame on somebody else."

Gase is in his first year as head coach of the Jets. While this team was considered a rebuild during the offseason, few thought this team would struggle as they have through the first 10 weeks of the regular season.

It has gotten to the point that last week, Jets fans began fundraising to protest Gase, who was an unpopular pick to be head coach when he was hired this past offseason. A plane flew over Manhattan last Friday as a result of the fundraising, with a message that read “Fire Adam Gase!”
