Jets Secure Receiver Allen Lazard during NFL Free Agent Negotiating Window

The former Green Bay Packer will likely play the WR2 role in Nathaniel Hackett's offense

The Green Bay Packers' loss is the New York Jets' gain.

According to Jordan Schultz (@thescore), Gang Green reached a contract agreement with free agent wide receiver Allen Lazard, who has been with the Packers since 2018.

In 2022, the 6-foot-5 Lazard led all Green Bay pass-catchers in receptions (60) and receiving yards (788) with none other than Aaron Rodgers as the team’s starting quarterback.

Its implications in the Rodgers situation aside, the Lazard signing provides the Jets with an experienced WR2 to complement reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson.

Excluding Wilson's significant contributions, the Jets received minimal production from their wide receiver group last year.

More than doubling the production of the next best Jets wide receiver, Wilson gained 1,103 receiving yards on 83 catches as a rookie. Jets’ tight end Tyler Conklin, not a wide receiver, ranked second to Wilson in both receptions (58) and receiving yards (552) on the 2022 team stat sheet.

Lazard, a former undrafted free agent out of Iowa State, was claimed by the Packers off the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad in December 2018.

Over 57 regular season games with Green Bay, Lazard has caught 169 passes for 2,236 yards and 20 touchdowns. In five career playoff appearances, the veteran receiver has totaled 11 catches for 200 yards and one score.

Allen Lazard has reportedly reached an agreement to join the Jets

ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported that Lazard was one of the players named on Rodgers’ "wish-list."

“Aaron Rodgers has provided the NY Jets with a wish-list of free agents he would like them to target and acquire, per sources,” tweeted Russini. “It includes Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Marcedes Lewis and….Odell Beckham Jr.”
