Are the New York Jets seen as America’s Underdog heading into the 2023 National Football League season?

The results of an NFL Network poll suggest as much.

On Thursday night’s edition of “NFL Total Access,” show host Mike Yam moderated a segment entitled “The 2023 NFL Underdog Tournament.”

Non-playoff teams from the 2022 season were placed into a “March Madness” style bracket in an attempt to determine which one would advance the furthest in 2023.

On the assumption that Aaron Rodgers would be taking the snaps for Gang Green, NFL Network personality Steve Wyche settled on the Jets as a tournament finalist.

With Wyche and Adam Rank projecting the Jets and the New Orleans Saints to meet in the mythical championship game, NFL Network viewers subsequently participated in an online Twitter poll to decide the winner.

The poll, which was posted at 7:34 pm on March 23, received a total of 2,967 votes during the short time it was active. Winning in a landslide, the Jets earned 66.3 percent of the votes compared to the Saints’ 33.7 percent.

Despite featuring the NFL’s fourth-ranked defense (311.1), the Jets finished in fourth place in the AFC East division with a 7-10 overall record in 2022. Gang Green, which suffered from instability at the quarterback position, scored impressive wins over Green Bay and Buffalo to sit at 7-4 prior to closing the season with six straight losses.
