What Jets Are Saying about Dalvin Cook

Aaron Rodgers, Tyler Conklin, Jeff Ulbrich and more share thoughts about team's new four-time Pro Bowl running back

Dalvin Cook was in Florham Park to sign his contract with the New York Jets on Wednesday.

Although he won't be available to practice until next week at the earliest, the four-time Pro Bowl running back has generated substantial buzz upon landing with the Jets.

After completing his fourth consecutive 1,100-yard rushing campaign, Cook found himself as a free agent when the Minnesota Vikings released him on June 9.

His decision to join former NFC North foe Aaron Rodgers in Green & White has made him the talk of One Jets Drive this week. Everyone from Rodgers to defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was asked about the team's newest running back.

When head coach Robert Saleh was asked about the reported off-the-field issues surrounding Cook, he said "the conversations we had and the depth at which we researched everything, I think we all came to agreement that we were very comfortable with the person and his situation."

Tight end Tyler Conklin, who spent four seasons as Cook's teammate with the Vikings, was amongst those Jets who spoke glowingly about Gang Green adding a player with the veteran running back's credentials.

Robert Saleh, Head coach

"Obviously, very excited to add a really, really good football player to this team and he adds another dynamic to this group that I think anybody would be excited about."

Aaron Rodgers, Quarterback

"You have to run the ball to win in this League. When a team becomes one dimensional, that’s when defenses usually have the upper hand, so we need to multiple guys to get it done. Dalvin has got it done for a long time at a high level, he’s motivated, he wants to win a championship. Obviously, he made it well known to me during the process he wanted to play with me and play here, in Jersey, so we’re excited to have him, excited to get him in here."

Garrett Wilson, Receiver

"He's a home run hitter. He can score from anywhere on the field. Great player and he'll be a great payer for our young guys in this room to learn from."

Tyler Conklin, Tight end

"We already had such a talented room with Breece [Hall] practicing a little bit today, Mike [Carter], Bam [Knight]. The more talent you can have the better. We're excited and glad to have him. He's a heckuva player."

Nathaniel Hackett, Offensive coordinator

"I think the best part about the NFL is the competition all the time. I think he’s going to be a great addition to the room. It’s going to make everybody better. He’s a guy that has done a lot in his career and we look forward to what he can bring to our team. ... We’re going to need every guy in that locker room. It’s a long season, 17 games, so everybody is going to have their opportunity to shine."

Jeff Ulbrich, Defensive coordinator

"Definitely exciting, and the potential of what it could be, but I think at the same time, as we all know, especially in this ultimate team sport, you need cohesion. ...  To get everybody on the same page as that is a process, so as much talent as we have, as exciting as it is, the potential of it, they still need to work and get on the same page, and I’m confident that they will be."
