Jets' Director of Player Personnel Hired By AFC Rival

In this story:
In a span of a week, the embattled New York Jets' front office has absorbed a stinging report and two important departures.
First, assistant general manager Rex Hogan and the organization agreed to part ways after four years as Joe Douglas' right-hand man. Now - according to SNY's Connor Hughes - director of player personnel Chad Alexander has left the organization for a promotion to assistant general manager with the Los Angeles Chargers.
In essence, now gone are general manager Joe Douglas' two lieutenants.
The latest move comes as a surprise, especially following a report from The Athletic last week detailing how the dysfunctional Jets' coaching staff fell short in 2023 while going 7-10 for the second straight year.
While there will be those who think that the loss of Alexander and Hogan are signs of the front office coming apart, how both executives left couldn't be more different.
To start, Alexander received a promotion to join a strong front office group led by Joe Horwitz. Horwitz was originally a member of the Baltimore Ravens - where Alexander spent 20 years himself. As a "fast-rising" candidate to become a general manager in the future, Alexander leaving New York is not indicative of any turmoil between himself and the Jets.
If anything, the former athlete from Wake Forest leaving is a positive sign.

The mark of a well-run organization has multiple coaches and executives up for promotions. Alexander being promoted is a sign that the Jets have the right people in place - even if the wins haven't shown up to this point.
Regardless of whether it's a good or bad sign, the Jets now have their work cut out for them this offseason. Not only do they have a plethora of needs on the roster, but they also now have two high-ranking executive positions that will need to be addressed in the coming weeks as well.
