Twitter Comes Alive in Aaron Rodgers Trade Aftermath

Jets' players generate laughs, Super Bowl predictions pile up on social media site

It only took the trade of a 39-year old quarterback to breathe some life into Twitter.

The breaking news of Aaron Rodgers going to the New York Jets gave the social media site a boost on Monday evening.

The blue check marks may be gone, but the hot takes and emotionally-charged tweets have resurfaced. In the wake of the trade report, Jets' fans were not shy to proclaim their Super Bowl plans.

It was more than the fans though. Tweeters from all walks of life, including NFL linebacker Will Compton, former No. 2 overall draft pick Robert Griffin and radio personality Andrew Fillipponi, chimed in on Gang Green's updated Lombardi Trophy chances.

Meanwhile, Jets' players generated some laughs, both intentionally and unintentionally, on Twitter after the Rodgers trade went down.

Rehabbing running back Breece Hall, whose promising rookie season was cut short by an ACL tear, suggested the idea that the Rodgers news helped improve his injured knee.

"My Knee feel a lil healthier now [emoji]," said Hall in a tweet.

Hall was also part of the roster contingent who changed their Twitter profile photos to an image of Rodgers wearing a Cal jersey during his college days. Sauce Gardner also participated.

Unfortunately for the Jets' 2021 top draft pick, quarterback Zach Wilson became a punchline for what was arguably the funniest joke of the day. Wilson was roasted for his postseason comment on the subject of sharing the quarterback room with a new addition in 2023.

"I'm going to make that dude's life hell everyday in practice," said Wilson following a 2022 campaign that saw the BYU product relegated to the bench due to poor performance.

Of course, Wilson didn't know that the Jets would bring in a four-time NFL MVP to take his job.

Naturally, when the Rodgers trade story broke, sports-related Twitter accounts quickly reminded fellow site users about Wilson's earlier proclamation.

Summing up the transpirings, Nicole Esther (@njrealtornic), a self-proclaimed "New York Jets & FC Bayern aficionado," provided a warning to her fellow tweeters.

"Jets Twitter was born when the team was feared & despised. And that was with a serviceable QB. The football world is not ready for what’s coming," tweeted @njrealtornic.
