PFF Ranks Lions' Roster 13th in NFL

PFF believes Detroit Lions have some concerns at the wide receiver position.

With the NFL offseason in full swing, it is that time of year to fully evaluate rosters and team strengths, and to preview who are playoff contenders and who are playoff pretenders.

While many NFL pundits are high on the Detroit Lions, there are whispers beginning to surface regarding the potential of the NFC North favorites to actually take a step backward in 2023.

In a recent PFF ranking of rosters, Detroit's came in ranked at No. 13 overall.

The pass-rush was considered the team's biggest strength, while the depth at wide receiver was considered the team's biggest weakness.

As PFF explained, "The Lions got 17.5 sacks between rookies Aidan Hutchinson and James Houston IV, the latter of which played only seven games. A full season of that duo, on top of production from John Cominsky, Julian Okwara and Josh Paschal, can create a lot of problems for opposing quarterbacks."

Unfortunately, Jameson Williams will miss the team's first six games of the season, causing many to question how the team will address his absence.

PFF added, "After Amon-Ra St. Brown, the most receiving yards among returning Lions is Kalif Raymond’s 616. St. Brown will continue to be the focal point of the offense, but there are a lot of question marks for the rest of this group."

After the schedule was released, many pundits projected the team to win over 10 games in 2023.

PFF, though, projects the team to win under nine total games, as the offensive concerns have raised significant question marks.

According to PFF, "This is a difficult team to project because of how much they overachieved in 2022 and the ever-changing NFC North landscape. But given how little the team improved on the offensive side of the ball in the offseason, expect some regression in 2023."
