Schefter Expects Fitterer 'Will Be Next' to be Fired in Carolina

Is a new GM on the way for the Carolina Panthers?

The future for Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer remains uncertain heading into the final week of the regular season but according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, there is belief that the team will move in a different direction.

"Owner David Tepper already has fired coach Frank Reich and some of his assistant coaches. Many now expect that general manager Scott Fitterer will be next, according to league sources.

"Should he fire Fitterer, Tepper then would have a clean slate to offer a prospective head coach and GM, though Panthers assistant GM Dan Morgan also has support within the organization, according to sources."

Since Fitterer was hired as GM in 2021, the Panthers have a record of 14-36 (.280). Trading everything they did to get Bryce Young and then following that up by being the worst team in the NFL is a tough look for the young GM. To make matters worse, Carolina has many holes to fill on both sides of the ball and high draft picks such as Ikem Ekwonu, Terrace Marshall Jr., and Jaycee Horn have either not performed up to their expectation or have not been on the field nearly enough.

Moving on from Fitterer would mean Tepper would hire a new GM and head coach in the same cycle for the first time since he purchased the team.
