Brock Purdy a Panther? Matt Rhule Liked the Idea

In this story:
Matt Rhule never could get the quarterback position right during his short stint as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers. But if others were on board with one of his ideas, maybe he could have.
In a recent press conference at Nebraska, Rhule was asked about San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy and instead of just talking about the type of player he is, he mentioned him as someone he liked in the draft.
"I think Brock Purdy is an amazing player because I played against him at Iowa State. When I was in the draft room at Carolina I brought his name up and I said, 'Hey guys, he should be on the draft board.' I got vetoed on that one. You can ask Coop."

The person he is referencing is Evan Cooper, who spent three years as the Panthers' cornerbacks coach and is now on Rhule's staff at Nebraska.
There could be some truth to Rhule's interest in Purdy, but there's no telling how serious that interest was. Did he pound on the table for him? Probably not. It was probably more of a "Hey everyone, what do you think about Brock Purdy?" Those in the room said nah and they all moved on.
Brock's younger brother, Chubba, played the last two years at Nebraska, one of which was with Rhule. He's since transferred to Nevada.
