Cam Newton: 'I'm Not a Football Player No More'

Is the former Carolina Panthers QB officially retired from football?

He's been out of the league since 2021, but Cam Newton has yet to formally announce that he's retired from playing football. However, he may have done so unofficially in a recent interview with Boardroom

"I'm not a football player no more. I'm a YouTuber," Newton said.

The former face of the Carolina Panthers franchise has focused on building his YouTube page over the last couple of years which now has over one million subscribers. He's becoming a rockstar in a different profession which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

"The Tyler Perry's of the world. The Jay Z's, the Beyonce's, the Oprah's - they have something in common - they own everything and that's the key," Newton said in the interview. "So every time I have an opportunity to own an IP, that's what I want to do. Being independent it requires more grit and grind rather than somebody having an already set platform - the ESPN's, the Fox Sports. I don't think if I was on those platforms I would be able to truly give the consumer...me."

A couple of weeks ago, Newton revealed that there would only be one team that he would play for right now and that team being NFC South rival, Atlanta.

"Me having a family now, it's always been about family and I don't see myself leaving Atlanta. If it's not Atlanta, I don't want to do it."

Whether or not he plays another down in the NFL, Newton will go down as one of the best to ever do it. For his career, he's thrown for 32,382 yards and 194 touchdowns while also rushing for another 5,628 yards and 75 scores.
