Cleveland Browns Hire Duce Staley as Running Backs Coach

The former Panthers assistant lands on his feet.

Former Carolina Panthers running backs coach Duce Staley has found a new home. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Staley is joining the Cleveland Browns' coaching staff.

Staley was fired the same day as former Panthers head coach Frank Reich and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown.

The Panthers ranked 29th in rushing yards per game, averaging just 92.6 yards. Carolina spent big money on free agent running back Miles Sanders who underperformed and lost his role as the starter to Chuba Hubbard. In the ten games under Staley, Sanders totaled 302 yards and one touchdown on 97 carries.

Despite finishing 13th in the rushing yards per game (115.2), the Browns elected to move on from running backs coach Stump Mitchell.
