Colin Cowherd: Carolina is 'On a Heater as the Worst Team in the League'

The shots just keep coming.

Since owner David Tepper purchased the Carolina Panthers in 2018, the team is tied for the worst record in the NFL (31-68), sharing the cellar with the New York Jets.

Losing is one thing, but running through six coaches (including interims) in six years is not a recipe for success. Neither is trading away your best assets (Christian McCaffrey, DJ Moore, and Brian Burns) for a bag of chips and a lukewarm soda.

The Panthers have become the running joke of the NFL over the last handful of years and as Pat McAfee stated on his show earlier this week, "they are the gift that keeps on giving."

Another big-time media personality, Colin Cowherd, took it a step further following the team's trade of Brian Burns.

"Carolina is without question on a heater as the worst team in the league for a half a decade. They are a mess. Say what you want about Cam Newton, they were fun when he was there. They didn't win all the time, but they were fun with Cam Newton. Cam made them a good watch. You could buy a season ticket, go to a game and have fun watching Cam. This is unwatchable."

He's not wrong either. It's a hard watch and there's no guarantee that better times are right around the corner. Every decision that has been made in recent years has seemingly backfired. Let's list them, shall we?

- Hiring Matt Rhule.

- Trading 2nd, 4th, and 6th round picks for Sam Darnold.

- Robbie Anderson's extension.

- Hiring Frank Reich.

- Not accepting a trade that would give you two first rounders for Brian Burns and then two years later, giving him away for a 2nd and a 5th.

- Giving up a king's ransom for the No. 1 overall pick and not potentially taking the wrong guy.

- Putting DJ Moore in the Bears trade rather than Brian Burns.

Should I keep going? I'd rather not.

This just shows how bad things have been and why it's so easy for national pundits to keep picking on the Panthers. Maybe the duo of Dan Morgan and Dave Canales is just what the doctor ordered to turn this thing around. Time will tell.
