Panthers Choose to Not Retain Chris Tabor
A new regime means staffing changes up and down the coaching staff, and the first big domino has fallen.
On Friday evening, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Panthers told Chris Tabor that he "will not be retained despite the two years he has left on his contract." Tabor is free to search for employment with another franchise.
Tabor was hired as the special teams coordinator in 2022, and served in that role until he was hired as the interim head coach after Frank Reich's dismissal. Tabor led the Panthers' special teams unit to a top ten finish according to DVOA in 2022, but the unit slipped to 23rd in 2023.
His interim head coaching stint ended with a 1-5 record, the lone victory coming in a monsoon against the divisional rival Atlanta Falcons.
Tabor has long been lauded as one of the best special teams coaches in the game and I presume that he won't be out of work for long.
