New England Patriots' Legend Reacts To Bill Belichick 'Dynasty' Portrayal

Vince Wilfork is the latest New England Patriots star of old to back up Bill Belichick after a controversial portrayal in "The Dynasty."

Over the past several weeks, "The Dynasty," Apple TV's documentary about the highs and lows of the New England Patriots' empire, has beecome quite controversial among fans.

Several aspects of the series have been under scrutiny, but perhaps most of all, the controversial portayal of legendary coach Bill Belichick. Even though he was one of the architects of the greatest dynasty in NFL history, the series often painted him out to be the villain and the cause of the Patriots' decline.

Belichick is far from perfect, and his front office decisions over the past few years were particularly questionable, but his accomplishments cannot be denied.

Several former Patriots stars have come to Belichick's defense after the documentary, with defensive tackle Vince Wilfork being the latest to do so.

“I didn’t like the comments of how it went. I think Bill deserves a lot more credit than what was portrayed in there,” Wilfork said in an interview with Patriots Wire. “So I just stay away from it. I’m going to tell you like I tell everybody else. Bill Belichick is the best head coach that ever coached the game of football."

With Belichick finding little success after Tom Brady's departure in 2020, some fans have questioned his status as the greatest coach of all time. The fact that Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid has led his team to three Super Bowls in five years has only added fuel to that narrative.

For Wilfork, though, there will never be another Belichick.

“Andy Reid—I like Andy as a coach—but my thing is, I’m a Bill Belichick guy. He’s won it in New York, and what he’s done in New England, it speaks volumes," Wilfork said. "I’m going to always respect Bill, and I’m going to always be grateful of Bill Belichick for the career that I had and what he taught me on and off the field. I would tell anybody he’s the greatest coach of all time. Until somebody come and surpass him, that’s what it is.”

Other former Patriots to defend Belichick in light of the documentary include Devin McCourty, Rodney Harrison and Julian Edelman.

After 24 years at the helm, Belichick and the Patriots agreed to part ways this offseason. Now Jerod Mayo is the man in charge in New England, and Wilfork is excited to see what his former teammate can do.

“I’m happy for my brother, Jerod Mayo, because I think he’s ready for it. I think he’s going to bring a lot to it, and I’m excited for him,” Wilfork said. “He’s getting a shot, and it’s obvious that Mr. Kraft sees something in him. But Bill Belichick saw something in him as well. As a rookie, Jerod was a captain. He has the attributes to lead. He’s not anything shortage of a leader. So he’s going to hopefully get that team in the right direction."
