Raiders' OL Coach James Cregg is Vital to the Team

The Las Vegas Raiders will depend heavily on their offensive line this upcoming season but have yet to patch the unit's holes left by free agency.

The Las Vegas Raiders will enter next season with many new faces on their coaching staff. Outside of a few coaches who remain, the Raiders will have almost an entirely new coaching staff.

Much of the offseason has been focused on Raiders coach Antonio Pierce's candidacy as the team’s permanent head coach and keeping defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who interviewed for multiple head coaching positions around the league this offseason.

The Raiders know what Coach Pierce can do after coaching under two head coaches. With the Raiders, Graham has now proven himself to be one of the better defensive coordinators in the National Football League.

It is well-known how vital Coach Pierce and Graham are to the team’s success. In the second half of last season, the Raiders’ defense took a significant step forward while playing underneath the combination of the two.

However, on the offensive side of the ball, there will be many more questions surrounding the Raiders’ staff. The Raiders have a new offensive coordinator, an offensive line coach, and a running backs coach. That is a lot of new parts for any team, even those with more stability than the Raiders have had over the last couple of years.

Las Vegas will also be adding more new players to the offensive roster, most of whom will likely be along the offensive line. The Raiders currently have an offensive line with three solid starters: Kolton Miller, Dylan Parham, and Andre James. The Raiders can all but bet those three players will be productive if they are healthy.

Other than those three, the Raiders don’t have a dependable offensive line, nor do they have the depth behind Miller, Parham, and James to sustain an injury to any of them.

Just as Graham proved last season with the development of the team’s defense, new Raiders offensive line coach James Cregg will be one of the most critical coaches on the staff this upcoming season.

Once the Raiders fill the holes along their offensive line, Cregg will get them in the right direction. A team usually only goes as far as its offensive and defensive lines take it. With as many moving parts as the Raiders enter the season with on offense, Cregg’s ability to handle it all will come into play at some point next season.

The Raiders' hope of a successful season greatly depends on Cregg’s ability to get the most out of the offensive line next season.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
