Raiders NFL Draft Prospect: HB Bucky Irving, Oregon

The Las Vegas Raiders may want to add a running back through the 2024 NFL Draft, and a talented prospect like Bucky Irving of Oregon could be around if they do so on Day 2.

Despite the departure of former All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs, the running back position is not an immediate need for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Though, with Raiders Zamir White already entering his third season with the club, the team's running back room lacks youth, and adding a halfback for the long run should be on Las Vegas' mind.

Considering a running back is not high on the team's list of priorities, it's fair to assume the Raiders would take one Day 2 if they hope to land a back with the potential to be an eventual starter or soild backup.

Enter halfback Bucky Irving of Oregon, one of the Pac-12's best backs over the past two seasons.

Irving is one of the best halfbacks in this year's draft class when it comes to receiving, as the prospect led all FBS running backs in receptions last season with 56, posting 413 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. He added 1,180 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns while helping lead the Ducks to the second-best total offense in the nation at 531.4 yards per game. Oregon finished the season 12-2 and was ranked sixth in the final AP Poll.

Irving was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team for his 2023 campaign. Pro Football Focus gave Irving an overall grade of 88.2 for the season.

The year prior, Irving recorded 1,058 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, 299 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.. His rushing total ranked third in the conference. PFF gave Irving an overall grade of 91.1 for that season.

Irving earned a total score of 76 from NFL Next Gen Stats for his 2024 NFL Combine outing, which ranked fifth among all halfbacks. He also received a production score of 78, the third-best among halfbacks.

The prospect recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.55 seconds, a 10-yard split time of 1.54, a vertical jump of 29.5 inches, and a broad jump of 9 feet, 7 inches.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
