Edelman Talks with Crosby About Brady Leaving Patriots

Julian Edelman told Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby about his reaction to Tom Brady's departure from the New England Patriots.

Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady shocked the football world when he announced he would leave the New England Patriots in 2020 after 20 successful seasons with the team.

Brady won six Super Bowls with the Patriots and won three MVP awards. He joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, leading them to a Super Bowl in his first season with the club. He is about as unquestioned of a "Greatest of All Time" as possible.

Brady’s departure from New England shocked many of his teammates, including wide receiver Julian Edelman, who became one of Brady’s favorite targets over the years. He caught 36 touchdowns from Brady in their years together.

In his appearance on Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby on the latest episode of his podcast, "The Rush with Maxx Crosby," Edelman described his reaction to Brady’s departure from the Patriots.

“He would joke around about leaving with me for like four years,” he said. “So this time, I was like, ‘Boy crying wolf.’ He left. He hit me up when he left, and he goes, ‘Hey baby, you want me to get you down here?’ I said, ‘Nah, I’m good, bro. I’m a one-team man.’”

Edelman cited his loyalty to the Patriots as a reason why he declined to join Brady in Tampa Bay. Another one of Brady’s favorite targets, tight end Rob Gronkowski, was traded to the Buccaneers while retired. He came out of retirement to play with Brady.

“I’m a pretty loyal guy when it comes to football,” Edelman said.

Edelman and Brady played together for 11 seasons, connecting 580 times for 6,311 yards. The duo won three Super Bowls together: 2015, 2017 and 2019.

When Brady was looking to pick up a first down, he would often look Edelman’s way, and Edelman would usually deliver. In his time with Brady, he had 326 first-down receptions.

Brady is on track to become a minority owner in the Raiders. Raider Nation certainly hopes Brady will do what he can to bring winning football to the organization for years to come.
