Raiders NFL Draft Prospect: HB Trey Benson, FSU

Halfback prospect Trey Benson of Florida State could be a second- or third-round option for the Las Vegas Raiders in this month's NFL Draft.

The Las Vegas Raiders could very well already have their top-two running backs with Zamir White and Alexander Mattison, but drafting a halfback for the sake of depth and long-term plans could be of interest to the Raiders going into the 2024 NFL Draft.

There is a lot of talent at the halfback position in this year's draft class, and some of those top prospects will likely fall to Day 2. This would be a great situation for Las Vegas after it addresses whatever position it feels is its No. 1 priority with its first-round pick.

Halfback Trey Benson of Florida State is one of those backs who will likely still be on the board early on Day 2.

Benson helped lead the Seminoles to a 13-1 record with his 904 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns, 227 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown last season. He was named to the All-ACC Second Team.

Pro Football Focus gave Benson an overall grade of 84.2 for his 2023 season. That followed a 2022 season in which he earned an overall grade of 88.5 after he rushed for 990 yards and nine touchdowns while posting 144 receiving yards. Benson was named to the All-ACC Second Team for that season as well.

The prospect turned in one of the best NFL Combine outings of any halfback, earning a total score of 80 from NFL Next Gen Stats, which led all halfbacks. He also received a production score of 73 (sixth among halfbacks) and an athleticism score of 89 (third among halfbacks).

Benson ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash and a 1.52-second 10-yard split. He also recorded a vertical jump of 33.5 inches and a broad jump of 10 feet, 2 inches.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
