Davante Adams Will Face Tough CB Competition in 2023

In this story:
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is unquestionably the best wide receiver in the NFL.
In his first season in the Silver and Black after being traded from the Green Bay Packers, Adams picked up right where he left off as an elite pass-catching weapon with 100 catches, 1,516 yards, and 14 touchdowns. All of these numbers were top seven in the NFL.
Being one of the top receivers in football also comes with challenges, however. Adams will again draw the opposing team’s top cornerback, as he has done for several years.
On Wednesday, Pro Football Focus posted a graphic on Twitter highlighting some of the best cornerbacks Adams will face this season, including one he will see twice, Patrick Surtain II of the Denver Broncos.
Adams will see Surtain in week one when the Raiders visit Denver. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Surtain lined up against Adams on 25 routes, allowing only four completions in week four last season.
However, Adams would get his revenge in week 11 against Surtain, catching two passes against him, including one for a touchdown. The Raiders would go on to sweep the Broncos last season.
In week two, Adams draws a match-up with Tre’Davious White of the Buffalo Bills. The last time White saw Adams was in 2018, when Adams was still with the Packers, and he caught four passes on eight targets when lined up against White. Adams would finish that game with eight catches for 81 yards.
When Adams faces his former team, he will match up with Jaire Alexander. This will be the first time the two face each other as opponents.
Adams will see Sauce Gardner when the Raiders play the New York Jets. This will be the first time Adams will match up with the Defensive Rookie of the Year.
In week 11, Adams will face a tough test in Jalen Ramsey and the Miami Dolphins. In their most recent match-up, Adams made two spectacular catches against Ramsey, but on four targets with Ramsey in coverage, and those would be the only two catches he would make in the game.
It is a sign of respect from defensive coordinators when they line their best cornerback up against Davante Adams, and he will once again see some of the league’s best this upcoming season.
What needs to be made clear is this. While Davante Adams will face some of the best CBs in the NFL, each week they face him, they will be facing the BEST WR in the NFL.
The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:
OTA Offseason workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 31-June 2, June 12-15
Mandatory Minicamp: June 6-8
