Raiders' Matchup Advantages in the AFC West: Offense

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders are turning their attention to the regular season after completing a productive preseason.
They will begin their quest to return to the postseason on the road against the Denver Broncos. This is always a tough divisional matchup for the Raiders, no matter the Broncos’ talent level that season.
The AFC West is one of the toughest divisions in the NFL, as it features two playoff teams -- including the defending Super Bowl champion -- and a team with an offensive genius coach and veteran quarterback.
The Raiders will have to take care of business within the division if they want to make the playoffs in 2023, and they have a few offensive advantages of their own to help them do that.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the match-up advantages the Raiders have on offense over their AFC West opponents.
Against the aforementioned Broncos, ancillary wide receivers like Hunter Renfrow and Jakobi Meyers will be important to getting behind their defense.
Patrick Surtain II, one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, will draw the Davante Adams match-up, so their No. 2 and No. 3 receivers will avoid him.
While Adams still will produce against Surtain and the rest of the Broncos defense, Renfrow and Meyers will have their fair share of reliance.
The Los Angeles Chargers were one of the worst teams in the NFL at stopping the run last season. They allowed the most yards per carry in the league at 5.4.
Thankfully for the Raiders, they just got running back Josh Jacobs back. Along with last year’s NFL leading rusher, the Raiders have a young and hungry Zamir White and two veteran backs also capable of producing.
This is a recipe for the Raiders to have the upper hand on the ground. Not only will they be efficient at running the ball, but if they have a lead in the game, they will be able to better manage the clock.
While it may be difficult to find areas where the Raiders have an advantage against the Kansas City Chiefs, their secondary is possibly where they might show some blemishes.
They have young players in their defensive backfield like Trent McDuffie and Bryan Cook, so the Raiders, who have one of the most formidable receiver trios in the league, should be able to take advantage of those match-ups.
If the Raiders want to finally beat their rivals in Kansas City, it starts through the air.
The Silver and Black open the regular season at the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4:25 p.m. EDT/1:25 p.m. PDT.
