Early Test Against Bills Could Help Raiders in Long Run

Regardless of their 38-10 loss on Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders should benefit from facing a team like the Buffalo Bills early in the season.

It's easy for Raider Nation to panic as the Las Vegas Raiders come off their tough 38-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

But there is a silver lining.

Seeing as though the Bills have continually been in contention among the best in the AFC over the last few seasons, it's not all that wild for a new-look team like the Raiders to fall to them in Buffalo.

And as defeating as a big loss is, it was only Week 2.

"It's a great opportunity early in the season to go up against a great team like the Bills," Raiders rookie edge rusher Tyree Wilson said when he spoke to the media after the game. "To come back, be able to fix some things, and hopefully help us in the rest of the season."

Of course, it won't happen overnight. The most critical thing the Raiders can do is learn from the mistakes they made and how they came out without a victory on Sunday.

"First off, I think we got to identify what we didn't do right," Raiders running back Josh Jacobs said. "We must address those issues, and then next week, focus on tha, and then come out and be ready for Sunday against the Steelers."

Despite losing in the fashion they did, the Raiders cannot completely forget the blowout loss if they hope to get better going forward.

"[T]o me, I don't think we just need to totally flush it," Jacobs said. "I think we need to address where we went wrong, improve from there ... and then move on. I don't think we just need to be like: 'All right, next game' and flush it. No, I don't think that will create a winning culture."

Now having tasted the success of a road win and the pain of a lopsided loss, the Raiders have a great opportunity to get back on track in their first home game of the season Sunday.

The Silver and Black return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:20 p.m. EDT/5:20 p.m. PDT.
