What CB Duke Shelley Can Bring to the Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders newly signed free agent cornerback Duke Shelley.

During this past NFL Free Agency, the Raiders signed three new cornerbacks to add to their defensive roster. One of those free-agent cornerback signings is Duke Shelley.

The Raiders signed Shelley on March 23. He can be a crucial veteran in the Raiders' cornerback room.

Shelley has spent four seasons as a cornerback in the NFL. He was selected 205th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He spent three seasons with the Bears and one with the Minnesota Vikings. He played a total of 30 games as a Chicago Bear, where he started a total of six games.

Duke Shelley is now entering his fifth season in the NFL with the Raiders. He has played a total of 41 games with 11 career starts. The 26-year-old out of Kansas State has 62 career and 84 combined tackles. Shelley also has 59 solo tackles during his time as a cornerback. He has also spent his entire career in the NFC North, where he has played many times against former Packer wide receiver and now Raider Davante Adams.

Last season, Shelley spent a short one season with the Minnesota Vikings. He played 11 games with the Vikings and started five games. He finished the season with a total of 23 tackles, with 31 of them being solo tackles. He also had eight passes defended last season, which is a career-high. Shelley also ended the season with one interception with the Vikings.

There is no doubt that last year the Raiders struggled at the cornerback position. Now, with newly signed veterans who can be crucial to the cornerback room, it will be interesting to watch how the Raiders' cornerback room will develop and be better than last NFL season.

The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:

OTA Offseason workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 31-June 2, June 12-15

Mandatory Minicamp: June 6-8
