Raiders Fred Biletnikoff Gets Honorable Recognition

Las Vegas Raiders Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff has a High School Football stadium honoring his name.

There is a Raider Hall of Famer who be getting recognition for years and generations to come. Fred Bilentnikoff will now have a high school football stadium named after him in his hometown, Erie, Pa..

The Raiders drafted Biletnikoff in the second round of the 1965 AFL Draft out of Florida State. Biletnikoff wore two numbers during his time with the Raiders. Those numbers were No. 14 and No. 25. He played 24 games wearing the No. 14, in which he caught 41 passes for 603 yards and three touchdowns.

Fred Biletnikoff played a total of 190 games with the Raiders. With 160 starts as a Raider wide receiver, he caught 589 passes for a total of 8,974 yards and 76 touchdowns. Biletnikoff was named the MVP of Super Bowl XI, in which the Raiders defeated the Minnesota Vikings 32-14. The Raider legend was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988.

Biletnikoff attended Technical Memorial High, now known as Erie High School. During his time in high school, Biletnikoff was a multi-sport athlete. The 80-year-old participated in the ceremony of the building of the new football stadium.

Here is what he said about being honored and recognized for having the brand-new football stadium named after him.

"I'm so happy that the school board finally got this through, and they got some money to build a facility that's going to help so many kids – young men and women – to make them feel like they're special, which they are special," Biletnikoff said. "Give them someplace special to perform. That's what I'm happy about.

"Being able to start at the old Tech High School, being up here at Tech Memorial when it first opened, and being a part of sports history here ... it means a lot to me. My name is on this field, but like we all want to do, we all want to make a point in life. We've got to create something for these young kids."

The new stadium will feature a turf field, seating, and an eight-lane track. The stadium is expected to be built in the Fall of 2023.
