Raiders to Release DT Jerry Tillery
The Las Vegas Raiders are set to release a former first-round pick next week.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Saturday that the Raiders informed veteran defensive tackle Jerry Tillery that they will release him when the new league year begins on Wednesday.
Tillery's 2023 campaign was his best since the 2021 season. Playing all 17 games and making six starts, the 27-year-old defensive tackle posted 31 combined tackles, two for losses, two sacks, six quarterback hits, and a fumble recovery.
A few of Tillery's more notable performances were against the Denver Broncos in Week 1, when he recorded three combined tackles and a sack, Week 10 against the New York Jets, when he registered a season-high four combined tackles, and Week 15, when he tallied three combined tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery in the Raiders' 63-21 route of the Los Angeles Chargers, Tillery's former team. He started all three of those contests.

The Chargers selected Tilllery in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent three-plus seasons with Los Angeles, totaling 98 combined tackles, 12 for losses, 10.5 sacks, two passes defensed, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and 33 quarterback hits in 54 games (29 starts).
Los Angeles waived Tillery in November 2022. After being picked up by the Raiders, Tillery played eight games with four starts to finish the 2022 season.
Tillery's departure will create $3.8 million in cap space for Las Vegas. Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce made it clear at the NFL Combine that he hopes to add some pieces to the interior defensive line. There will be plenty of names to consider for that area in free agency and next month's draft.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
