Raiders Will Need Garoppolo to be Clutch in 2023

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders struggled as a team in 2022, especially in one-score games.
The team played in 13 one-score games but only won four of them. They finished with a 6-11 record and missed the playoffs for the eighth time in 10 years.
This disappointing season prompted General Manager Dave Ziegler to shake up the roster in a few significant ways. One of those ways was letting longtime franchise quarterback Derek Carr walk and bringing in Jimmy Garoppolo on a three-year contract.
Garoppolo reunites with Coach Josh McDaniels, a coach whose scheme Garoppolo is familiar with. Garoppolo played for McDaniels for three and a half seasons in New England with the Patriots.
Garoppolo is expected to lead the Silver and Black as the starting quarterback for at least this season. As the Raiders are looking to return to the playoffs, they will turn to a quarterback who has essentially known nothing but winning throughout his NFL career.
Garoppolo has a 40-17 regular season record and has also been a successful postseason quarterback. When he was the starter for the San Francisco 49ers, Garoppolo played in a Super Bowl and two NFC Championship games.
The Raiders will need Garoppolo to bring that winning experience to Las Vegas, as they want to return to the playoffs. Garoppolo has led 11 game-winning drives in his career, and as the Raiders lost several one-score games in 2022, they will hope that Garoppolo can turn some of their fortunes around.
Health permitting, Garoppolo will likely be productive for the Raiders, as he will re-enter a system with which he has familiarity, and he has plenty of solid weapons around him that should make his job more manageable.
As McDaniels looks to change the Raiders’ luck in crunch time, he will ask Garoppolo to help him do that. Garoppolo’s experience as a winning quarterback and a player formerly of McDaniels’ system should add up to a seamless transition for him to the Raiders.
There is a considerable amount of weight on Garoppolo’s shoulders to be successful with the Raiders and win games in the fourth quarter. Garoppolo is used to that pressure, as he has often experienced it.
The Raiders might turn their luck around with Garoppolo at quarterback, and they will need him to be a clutch performer in 2023.
