Raiders Adding Former Dolphins Coach Philbin to Staff

The Las Vegas Raiders are adding yet another former NFL head coach to their coaching staff.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Raiders are hiring Joe Philbin to be their next senior offensive assistant.

Philbin, 62, was head coach of the Miami Dolphins for three-plus seasons beginning in 2012, where he finished with an overall record of 26-30.

Also, Philbin served as the Green Bay Packers' offensive coordinator for five seasons before joining the Dolphins, and he returned to that role with Green Bay in 2018 before becoming its interim head coach for the final four games.

In between that season and his time in Miami, Philbin served as assistant head coach and offensive line coach of the Indianapolis Colts for two seasons.

After his 2018 season in Green Bay, Philbin became the offensive line coach of the Dallas Cowboys for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons.

Most recently, Philbin served as an offensive analyst for Ohio State during the 2023 season.

Before joining the NFL, Philbin spent 19 years coaching in the college ranks, his last four having been as the offensive line coach at Iowa.

Philbin was hired by the Packers in 2003 to be their assistant O-line coach. He held that role for three seasons, along with his title as tight ends coach for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Philbin then became the Packers' O-line coach for the 2006 season, which led up to his first five seasons as the club's offensive coordinator.

Philbin coached Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams during that 2018 season, but while the two each had long tenures in Green Bay, that was the only season they were together.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
