In this story:

Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Marcus Peters has years of valuable experience in the National Football League.

A nine-year veteran who is playing for his fourth NFL franchise, Peters knows the ins-and-outs of the game and what it takes to excel.

For that reason, the first-year Raider makes himself available to his teammates, especially for rookies like cornerback Jakorian Bennett.

"I tell everybody, man I'm an open book, and for you to get the information you've got to go want to pull it out of the library and you've got to want to go read it," Peters said when he addressed the media Saturday. "He just comes over and asks questions, and every question he's got that I don't have the answer for, we're going to figure it out together. And then we get in the meeting room, he sits right next to me and he's still asking questions.

"And that's how it goes, that's how game is passed down most of the time. You don't got to really say too much, just pay attention and lead by example and pay attention by example and you just start filling in your little information, add everything to his game and then it's going to be him."

Young players are not always quick to seek the advice of a veteran, especially one with the accolades Peters has.

But Peters' assurance to his teammates makes himself more approachable for players like Bennett.

"It made it a lot easier," Bennett told reporters Sunday. "MP's a cool dude. Like, he's helped me so much. Like I seen like the second practice, he caught an interception, and that just kind of rubs off on everybody else in the room on the defense, just seeing him go out there and just -- like, he's so smooth and just cerebral."

Bennett was selected by the Raiders in the fourth round of this year's NFL Draft out of Maryland.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
