It’s no secret that the Las Vegas Raiders have been doing their homework on all the top quarterback prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft.

However, quarterbacks are likely to dominate the top of the draft board, with multiple teams showing interest in this year’s crop of signal callers.

Alabama’s Bryce Young has increasingly become the favorite to go No. 1 overall to the Carolina Panthers, leaving three of the top four quarterbacks prospects available.

With the recent rumors that the Houston Texans might not take a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud could be on the board after their selection.

This prompts the question: how aggressive would General Manager Dave Ziegler be if he thinks Stroud could be the quarterback of the future in Las Vegas? At No. 3 overall, the Arizona Cardinals don’t need a quarterback and have multiple holes they need to fill on their roster.

This is where the Raiders could offer them a number of picks to move up from No. 7 to No. 3 to select Stroud or whatever quarterback they like. They have also met with Kentucky’s Will Levis and Florida’s Anthony Richardson.

To trade up with the Cardinals, the Raiders will have to send them a number of picks, likely including their 2024 first-round pick. It will be up to Ziegler to determine if the price is worth finding his franchise quarterback.

If they decide to play it safe, stay at No. 7 and select a player at a different position, someone like Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker could play in the second round as a developmental option.

When it comes to finding a franchise quarterback, teams need to take risks in order to find their guy. Whether Ziegler decides to do that or not will be seen next Thursday.
