Allegiant Stadium Builder Fined

At the start of 2020, any Raiders fans, whether they transplanted from Oakland or were newly formed in Las Vegas, would have probably said they were looking forward to the first time they would have been able to step inside the Las Vegas Raiders new Allegiant Stadium.
Well, now because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s likely some fans won’t be able to enjoy that experience, and it didn’t take long to affect the workers who were still finishing building the stadium.
It’s because of having multiple positive tests of workers at the site that the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration has fined the firm that’s been overseeing the construction of Allegiant Stadium, Mortensen/McCarthy, $13,494. It’s related explicitly to when two workers on the site of the stadium were allegedly not following social distancing guidelines intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 best.
In response, Mortensen/McCarthy both refuted and is contesting the fine given by the OSHA. In a statement, the firm said: “Mortensen/McCarthy is committed to complying with all health and safety regulations, and we stand by our strong safety record on the Allegiant Stadium project. Our team has actively communicated and diligently enforced evolving Nevada OSHA and centers for Disease Control and Prevention requirements with our project partners and up to 2000 workers on site each day. Our team has continued to make changes and adjustments as needed or identified in an effort to protect everyone on the project.”
With the stadium being as close to completion as it is and with the start of the NFL season getting closer, it certainly isn’t ideal to be getting these sorts of headlines about your newly built home stadium. Still, there is time to correct mistakes before fans step foot into Allegiant Stadium for the first time. Whether they end up receiving the fine or not, it’s probably safe to say that Mortensen/McCarthy will step up its social distancing protocols to try to make sure it isn’t fined for even more money.
