Film Study: Raiders CB Jakorian Bennett

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders drafted Maryland cornerback Jakorian Bennett with the No. 104 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
In his career with the Terrapins, Bennett posted 55 tackles, four and a half tackles for loss, 24 pass break ups and five interceptions.
“We saw an improvement in his play from 2021 to 2022,” said General Manager Dave Ziegler in an interview with JT the Brick after the draft. Ziegler also praised Bennett’s speed and ability to make plays on the football.
Today, we are going to break down two games from Jakorian Bennett’s 2022 season and see what kind of player the Raiders are getting.
Starting with his film against Michigan, the first thing that’s noticeable about Bennett is his quick footwork and how easily he can cover ground. He got downhill and made plays on the ball carrier often, but was also liable to take the occasional bad angle to the ball.
In coverage, Bennett lined up all over the field. He lined up in the slot, on the outside, in press man, and in deep coverage. He liked to get physical in coverage as well. There were moments where he got outmuscled, so he will want to add functional strength. He finished this game with seven tackles.
In the following week against Michigan State, Bennett continued to move all around the formation in different coverages. He was excellent in coverage in this game, as he did not allow a catch when targeted. He did commit a pass interference penalty, however.
Bennett’s athleticism was abundantly present against the Spartans, and he finished the game with seven total tackles and a pass break up.
The one takeaway from studying Jakorian Bennett’s film was that he possesses the necessary speed and athleticism to survive at the NFL level. He was consistently in stride with his receiver and rarely got beat.
The Raiders have a corner who can line up in the slot or on the outside, and possesses elite ball production and speed in order to make life difficult for receivers. He will have a great chance to be an early contributor and could establish himself quickly.
The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:
OTA Offseason workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 31-June 2, June 12-15
Mandatory Minicamp: June 6-8
