The Las Vegas Raiders are turning their attention to the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Raiders had an impressive second half of the 2023-24 season and now have the opportunity to add more talented players to their roster.

Las Vegas has several good, young defensive players, but they could always stand to add more and probably will in the 2024 NFL Draft.

One area the Raiders might focus on is the defensive secondary. The Raiders have talented players under control in the backfield, but it would be good to add even more talent.

One defensive player they could consider is Minnesota’s Tyler Nubin,  arguably the best coverage safety in the draft class.

Nubin will be at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., showcasing his talents in February after finishing his Golden Gopher career with 207 total tackles, four and a half tackles for losses, three forced fumbles, 11 passes defended and a program-record 13 interceptions. He was selected a First-Team All-American and First-Team All-Big Ten choice in 2023.

Nubin is 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, giving him more than the desirable size for an NFL safety. He moves well for his size, possessing great downfield speed and physicality against his match-up.

According to Pro Football Focus, Nubin allowed only six receptions on 20 targets for 90 yards and two touchdowns last season. He has twitchy athleticism and an effortless ability to flip his hips and move downfield.

Nubin was a leader and a communicator on the back end of the Golden Gophers’ defense, often directing his teammates to the right coverage areas and diagnosing plays. He played at Minnesota for five years, giving him invaluable experience coming into the NFL. Players with his combination of physical traits and intangibles rarely come around.

While Nubin moves well, he does not possess elite speed, and if he is beaten downfield, he does not have the speed to recover. He often has his eyes caught in the backfield and over-pursues plays.

The Raiders have two impressive safeties already, but Nubin has the potential to play other places in the defensive backfield. He is projected to be a late first or early second-round selection.

If the Raiders were able to snag Nubin in the second round, they would be adding a quality player and could figure out where to play him later.
