Raiders Will Face Tough Offenses in the AFC West

In this story:
While the Las Vegas Raiders defense has the pieces to have a turnaround season in 2023, they will still need to be prepared when they take on some of the league’s best offenses.
Three of those offenses play in the AFC West -- the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Denver Broncos. All three teams will look to have explosive or vastly improved offenses this upcoming season.
As the Raiders play each of these teams twice, they must have elite defensive performances against all three to stay competitive in the division.
The Chiefs just won their second Super Bowl in four seasons, leading the NFL in points per game at 29.2 and total yards per game at 413.6.
They feature one of the most dynamic passing attacks in the league, as two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes continues on his Hall of Fame trajectory, and tight end Travis Kelce is to be one of the biggest threats over the middle of the field in the league.
The Raiders have not had much success beating Mahomes, as they have only defeated him once in 10 games. While the Raiders have not had much success against Mahomes, most of the league hasn’t either.
The Chargers improved their offense this offseason, selecting TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston to add to their already good receiver room that features Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.
Justin Herbert is one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL and they brought in Kellen Moore as their offensive play caller. The Chargers should be a dangerous offensive team in 2023.
However, the Raiders and Chargers have each gotten the best of each other three times since Herbert took over in Los Angeles, including a split last season.
The Chargers are a good team, but the Raiders have found ways to slow them down and will need to find ways to control their new-look offense.
The Broncos hired Sean Payton as their head coach, and he has been the catalyst behind some of the highest-scoring offenses in the NFL in his time with the New Orleans Saints. In Payton’s nine years as head coach of the Saints, the team averaged 27.1 points per game.
Payton will look to help quarterback Russell Wilson bounce back from a dreadful 2022 season with the help of a room full of capable receivers. They will also look to get running back Javonte Williams back healthy.
The Raiders have beaten the Broncos in their last six games and won eight of the last nine. The Broncos' offense should improve in 2023, but the Raiders will look to continue their winning ways of the last few seasons.
While the Raiders will face some of the best offenses in the league in their division, they have succeeded in the past and will look to continue those trends in 2023.
