AFC West Week 1 Preview: Raiders-Broncos, KC Primetime

The Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos meet for the first divisional showdown of the season, Kansas City to have championship ceremony, Chargers welcome Dolphins to SoFi.

One of the NFL's most competitive divisions, the AFC West, will have quite a few storylines to follow in Week 1.

Here's what to look for from around the division in this first week of the regular season:

Las Vegas Raiders at Denver Broncos

The Raiders and Broncos will determine the first leaders in the AFC West of this NFL season as Las Vegas heads to Empower Field at Mile High for its first season opener against Denver since 2019.

The Silver and Black swept the season series against the Broncos last season and have won the last six games between the divisional rivals.

It will be the first regular season game with a new team for a number of people, including Broncos Coach Sean Payton and Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs

This showdown will be the first game of the 2023 NFL season, as the Chiefs will begin their Super Bowl title defense on Thursday night.

Kansas City will host a brief celebration ceremony to recognize its Super Bowl LVII champions before the team turns its focus and looks ahead to a new season.

The Lions barely missed out on last year's playoffs and would love nothing more than make an early statement by taking down the reigning Super Bowl champions in their own stadium.

Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles comes off a trip to the postseason that saw it blow a 27-0 lead to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card round.

The Chargers will be looking to right the wrongs of last season, and that will start with taking care of business at home Sunday when they host the Dolphins.

Miami also fell in the Wild Card round.

Expect both teams to come in with quite the chip on their shoulders, as they each search for a Week 1 victory to start their respective seasons on a high note.

The Silver and Black open the regular season at the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4:25 p.m. EDT/1:25 p.m. PDT.
