Arch-Rival Reaches Out to Antonio Pierce

On Christmas Day, the Las Vegas Raiders faced the Kansas City Chiefs on the road in a pivotal game for both teams, but for different reasons.

The Raiders were passionately playing for Coach Antonio Pierce, as the players used their game against the Chiefs to prove Pierce was the man for the job.

The Chiefs' loss to the Raiders marked their fourth loss in six games. The Christmas game for them served a different purpose, as their loss to the Raiders was a wake-up call.

Chiefs Coach Andy Reid said it was one the team needed. After winning their second consecutive Super Bowl, Reid texted Coach Pierce to thank the Raiders.

"I texted him," Reid told Peter King of NBC Sports, "I just said: 'Hey, beautiful facility, first of all. And I appreciate you kicking our tail because you taught us a lesson. You get complacent in this business. The margin between winning and losing is tiny. You better step up.'"

Las Vegas traveled to Arrowhead Stadium and beat quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in such a profound fashion, forcing the Chiefs to take a hard look into the mirror.

The Raiders' dominating victory helped motivate the Chiefs down the stretch en route to another Super Bowl victory, their second in as many years.

"There's a time and a place for these players that have been here before," Reid said. "You know what it takes. If you're the veteran that's dropping the ball or you're the veteran getting the penalties, you better figure it out. Figure it out quick. This season's gonna go down."

The Raiders now focus on taking the next step in dethroning the Chiefs as AFC West champions, as the Kansas City has won the division title the last seven seasons in a row.

The Chiefs have built a dynasty around Coach Reid and Mahomes. The Raiders are trying to get to the mountaintop in their own way. Wins like their victory over the Chiefs on Christmas day will go a long way in Pierce and the Raiders' goal of being where the Chiefs are.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
