The Las Vegas Raiders signed veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer to a two-year contract early in April of the free agency period.

Hoyer is a player who has familiarity with the current regime of Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler. The 37-year-old is entering his 15th season in the NFL with his ninth different team.

He sat down to talk as part of their Raiders Roundtable Live Show on their YouTube Channel on Monday, during this year’s Content Day.

Hoyer discussed several topics, including his longevity in the NFL.

“To get to year 15 is something I’m proud of, and obviously with this new opportunity, and this team, and this organization, really to end my career, that’s the way it’s going to be,” he said. “I'm excited to meet all the guys, it’s obviously a great group, get to work with them every day, and just go out and execute and have fun.”

Hoyer has compiled 10,668 passing yards and 53 touchdowns over his lengthy career and has mostly been a backup during his time in the NFL.

He comes to Las Vegas as the backup to Jimmy Garoppolo and can pass the knowledge he has gained over the years to rookie Aidan O’Connell.

“I think that’s part of the role, part of the reason I’m here,” Hoyer said when asked about it. “We have a lot of other guys who have played in this system, adding Jakobi Meyers, one of the smartest players I’ve ever played with; he was able to learn it quickly.

“All of us who have played in the system before, it is our responsibility to help those other guys if they have questions or maybe point something out that they’re not noticing. I think that’s part of our role.”

Brian Hoyer’s experience in the NFL and specifically in McDaniels’ system allows him to not only serve as a capable backup to Garoppolo but also to pass the knowledge onto younger players. He can teach them what it takes to make it in the NFL and not only make it, but be successful.
