Raiders Bye Week Evaluations: Davante Adams

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders head into the bye week with a chance to reflect on the season and look forward to what the rest of it has to offer.
The Raiders are 5-7 and in third place in the AFC West after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. They are 2-2 since Interim Coach Antonio Pierce took over, showing improvement on both sides of the ball.
Offensively, Pierce decided to move forward with rookie Aidan O’Connell as the starting quarterback, replacing veteran Jimmy Garoppolo. This has resulted in a slight improvement offensively and gives the Raiders a chance to see if O’Connell is their quarterback of the future.
What has remained unchanged with the Raiders’ offense has been the excellent play of star wide receiver Davante Adams, who is on pace to be selected to his seventh consecutive Pro Bowl.
Adams’ volume has not been as high as last season, but that is due to the emergence of Jakobi Meyers as a reliable No. 2 wide receiver. While Adams’ volume is lower, he is still producing at a high level and is the highest priority for defensive coordinators each week.
Through 12 games this season, Adams has 69 receptions for 814 yards and four touchdowns. He ranks 13th in the league in receptions and 12th in receiving yards.
Adams’ best game came in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football, when he caught 13 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
One of his touchdowns came on a play-action on fourth-and-inches, and was a great throw from Garoppolo. The other was late in the fourth quarter on a well-run whip route against cornerback Levi Wallace.
While Adams has not been the Raiders’ entire offense this season, he is still the main component. Stopping No. 17 will continue to be the main focus of defensive coordinators for the rest of the season.
Despite playing with three different quarterbacks this season and undergoing a coaching change, Adams has been one of the best receivers in the NFL as he has been for several years.
Adams has never wavered on wanting to be a Raider and should be a leader and a star for the Silver and Black for years to come.
The Silver and Black will return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, December 10, at 4:05 p.m. EST/1:05 p.m. PST.
