Caleb Williams is Familiar With Task of Joining a Losing Team

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders don't necessarily need a "savior" to get back to where they want to be, but there are some prospects in this year's NFL Draft class who might be capable of filling such a role.
That will be the expectation for whichever team lands USC quarterback and 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams.
Williams joined a USC team in 2022 that finished 4-8 the season before. He would help turn them into an 11-3 team in the 2022 season that included a trip to the Pac-12 title game.
Unfortunately for him, that success did not last long, as USC finished 8-5 last season.
"This was one of the seasons that -- it's none like any other season I've had to where I've been so close to being neutral or close to having a losing record, so it was tough for me," Williams said when he addressed the media at the NFL Combine on Friday. "Like I said, I'm a competitor, I like to win, and so, being that close to losing was difficult for me, but I had people in my corner to help me and figure out the energy and feeling that I was feeling. I think it's important going into a situation because there's nobody in the first point in the draft that would be early in the draft, and I expect myself to go high.
"To be a 12-and-whatever team, the teams are going to be -- at least from the year before -- is kind of going to be how I went into USC, where they were 4-8 and things like that. So, just preparing for those moments and I think last year was a perfect example."
Williams did not make any of the Associated Press' All-American teams in 2023.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
