Can Jakobi Meyers Keep it Going vs. Bears?

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has been playing exceptionally well over the past few weeks. Can he keep it going against the Chicago Bears?

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has been everything the team expected he would be through the first six weeks of the season when they signed him to a three-year, $33-million contract in March.

Meyers has seamlessly stepped into the No. 2 wide receiver role, catching 30 passes for 335 yards and four touchdowns. Despite missing a game, he is on pace to shatter his career-best receiving numbers.

Now, the Raiders are at Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears this afternoon. Despite being 1-5, the Bears have been competitive this season, and the Raiders cannot overlook them.

Meyers will look to keep his momentum against the Bears, as his production in the passing offense has been incredibly beneficial. He had only a two-catch, 33-yard outing against the Los Angeles Chargers a few weeks ago but has posted big numbers since that game.

Against the Green Bay Packers, Meyers caught seven passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Against the New England Patriots, he caught five passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Not only is he getting open and picking up crucial yardage, he is also getting into the end zone.

Meyers has been an exceptional complement to star wide receiver Davante Adams, as defenses will always allocate significant resources to slowing him down. When they do that, it has allowed Meyers to produce.

The Bears are going to be without essential contributors in their secondary. Safety Eddie Jackson is out due to a foot injury, and rookie cornerback Terrell Smith is out because of an illness.

Even with those players in the lineup, the Bears’ secondary has not played well this season. They have allowed the fourth-most passing yards per game in the league at 356.8 and are down two of their top players in the defensive backfield.

Meyers has been a favorite target of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who is out because of a back injury. Backup Brian Hoyer will start in his place. Meyers must continue to get open, and Hoyer must find him for the Raiders’ passing offense to operate efficiently.

Meyers has been excellent for the Raiders this season and now comes into a favorable match-up with the Bears. Even without Garoppolo, he still has a chance to keep his momentum going and have a big day.
