Davante Adams Proved the Doubters Wrong Last Season

In this story:
The narrative surrounding Las Vegas Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams was much different at this time last year than it is now.
Despite the Raiders' blockbuster trade for Adams that made the club one of the biggest talks of last year's offseason, there were still naysayers who said the Pro-Bowler would not be as productive with his new organization as he was while catching passes from one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play the game, Aaron Rodgers.
Adams put all that to bed last season when he earned himself his third-straight first-team All-Pro selection after finishing the season third in total receiving yards and first in receiving touchdowns.
The veteran widely explained what the accolade truly meant in an article by Mirin Fader of The Ringer published Tuesday.
“It proved that I am me,” Adams said. “A quarterback doesn’t make me. … I make me. And I can do it consistently at this level.
“That’s why [last] season meant a lot. Even if I went and played like dog shit next year, they can’t say it. Because now I’ve already proved it throughout the course of a season, played every game, and put together a résumé that says I do not need … You can erase all the numbers. You can just write in: 'He didn’t need Aaron Rodgers.'"
Adams has been to six Pro Bowls. He was consecutively named to the All-Pro First Team in his last two seasons as a Green Bay Packer. But the 2022 season was different.
“If I wouldn’t have gotten first-team All-Pro, this is the first year where I would’ve actually cared," he said.
Not only will Adams be entering his second year without Aaron Rodgers, but he will start the season with a third starting quarterback since joining the Raiders.
The challenge keeps growing for the star receiver, but perhaps it's the motivation he will look to embrace.
The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:
OTA Offseason workouts:
May 22-23, May 25, May 31-June 2, June 12-15
Mandatory Minicamp: June 6-8
