Former All-Pro WR Believes Davante Adams is Still No. 1

Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson thinks Las Vegas Raiders wideout Davante Adams is still the best at his position.

Over the last couple seasons or so, the consensus around the NFL seemed to be that Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams was the top receiver in the game.

But with young stars like reigning Offensive Player of the Year Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings and up-and-coming Pro Bowler Ja'Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals taking the league by storm over the last two seasons, the spotlight has begun to shift.

Jefferson was clearly the league's best receiver last season as he led the NFL in receiving yards (1,809) on a league-leading 128 receptions. He also was No. 1 in receiving yards per game (106.4).

Even Miami Dolphins All-Pro receiver and former Super Bowl champion Tyreek Hill comes off of what was arguably his best season yet after posting a career-best 1,710 receiving yards and 119 receptions.

Despite these two receivers' dominance, there are some who still believe Adams stands above the rest.

Cincinnati Bengals legend Chad Johnson certainly believes so.

In a quote tweeted early Tuesday morning, Johnson responded to user who had asked him who he thought was the best wide receiver in the league:

"Nobody has unseated Davante Adams, Jefferson & Chase are immensely talented & are up next easily but how y’all just pass up on those who’ve been doing it consistently longer is disrespectful."

Adams comes off his third-straight All-Pro campaign and fourth 1,370-plus-receiving-yard season in five years.

Even with a completely new team after having spent eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers and future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Adams managed to finish third in the league in receiving yards (1,516) while leading the league with 14 touchdown receptions.

Adams also posted eight 100-yard receiving games last season, five of which he finished with at least 140 receiving yards.

If anyone has an expert opinion on the matter, it would be Johnson, who was, himself, was considered to be the best wideout in the game at one time.

Johnson finished his career as a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro selection.
