Raiders Could Not Sustain Plan to Get Adams the Ball

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams finished Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears with 57 yards on seven receptions, making only two catches in the second half.

It was clear from the get-go that Las Vegas Raiders' wide receiver Davante Adams would be the offense's focal point in its Week 7 game against the Chicago Bears.

After recording only six receptions combined in the Raiders' previous two games, the six-time Pro Bowler expressed frustration in his recent lack of contribution to the offense in the week leading up to Sunday's contest.

But Adams went into halftime on Sunday with 48 yards on five receptions. He would make two receptions in the second half as his team lost, 30-12.

"I think -- to put this all to bed -- we always try to get the ball to our best guys," Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels said when he addressed the media after the game. "You know what I mean? And sometimes, the defense plays things to take [those] opportunities away; other times, they don't.

"And so, we've always been looking to try to do that, and we'll continue to try to do that. So, it just so happened that there were a handful of things early in the game that we had opportunities to go ahead and get to them, and they played defenses and didn't double team him and all the rest of it, take him away. 

"And we moved around some, but give those two credit -- the quarterback and Tae. I mean, they got off to a decent start and then they started to do some things with the coverage. And again, we got to play the game more on early downs, where it's first down, second-and-4, first down, second-and-4, instead of getting into third down, third-and-long as much as we did as the game wore on."

Adams would finish with only 57 receiving yards on the day.

"I mean, I think we had a few plays scripted to get him [Adams] the ball," Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer said. "It was working, and then, you just adjust as the game goes on and try to get him the ball in different ways and we just -- like I said, it's not really anything other than coming down to lack of execution on certain plays that can keep you out there longer and then, you have more opportunities."

The Silver and Black will stay on the road to take on the Detroit Lions on Monday night, October 30, at 8:15 p.m. EDT/5:15 p.m. PDT.
