Is Davante Adams a Dark Horse MVP Candidate?

Las Vegas Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams has proven his value to the team, but can he prove it to the entire league?

When thinking about the Las Vegas Raiders’ offense, almost every conversation begins and ends with what star wide receiver Davante Adams leaving his mark on the game.

The six-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team-All Pro has taken his game to another level in the last few seasons. His rare combination of size, hands and innate ability to get open frustrates opposing defensive coordinators.

Adams is unquestionably one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, and one of the top overall players in the league. Now, quite possibly, Adams could be a dark horse candidate to win the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award.

While it’s almost impossible for a wide receiver to earn the NFL’s most prestigious honor, Adams’ worth to the Raiders is abundantly clear. Defenses allocate nearly every resource to limiting his impact on the game, yet are rarely successful.

This is one of the things that makes Adams so valuable as a player, the fact that teams do everything they can to stop him, yet he still produces at an unprecedented level. Not to mention, wide receiver is one of the top three most valuable positions on offense, especially in today’s NFL.

Adams’ MVP odds are currently at +20000 according to BetMGM, a considerable long shot. There are several reasons why he would not win it more than there are that favor his argument. One is that quarterback is the most valuable position in football, and there are several elite ones in the NFL.

Another reason is that the Raiders may not have the team record that would help his case. Oftentimes, voters will not be inclined to vote for a player whose team did not make the playoffs. If the Raiders made a run to the postseason, he would have a much greater chance.

No wide receiver has ever won the award either, not even some of the all-time greats such as Jerry Rice or Randy Moss, which also doesn’t help Adams’ case. He would have to post once-in-a-lifetime numbers to even come close.

While it feels like a near impossibility for Adams to win the MVP award, his value to the Raiders is obvious, and he should have another excellent season leading their offense.
