What the Raiders Are Looking For in Their Seventh Overall Pick

The Las Vegas Raiders have a luxury they didn't have in last year's NFL Draft: a first-round pick. A top-10 pick, at that.

Such a privilege comes with a lot of responsibility, and for the sake of General Manager Dave Ziegler's still developing reputation at the helm, the Raiders need to make the most out of this pick.

When he spoke to the media on Friday, Ziegler discussed what he and his club are looking for in their first-round pick.

"I think the priority is finding someone who is going to have an impact," Ziegler said. "You want to find a starting level player at that spot, there's no doubt about that. And I think along with that, you want to find a player who hopefully fits a need that you have. I mean, we're going to look at the best available players, but we also have a lot of places on this team where we can add competition and we can add people who can help our roster. And we want to find a player who fits what we look for in a Raiders player. We want to find someone who has a passion for football. We want to find someone who is someone who has some upside, that has some explosiveness to their game that can impact the game in a positive way, and that's going to fit our organization I'd say and have a positive impact on the organization as a person, too. So those are some of the things that we'll be dialed in on."

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.
