Raiders' Need For Improvement in CB Room Ranks Highly

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders have had themselves a decent offseason thus far, but there are still some areas on the field that need to be improved.
One of those is the cornerback room, a group that was a major liability for the Raiders last season.
Kevin Patra of NFL.com listed 10 teams with "roster holes" heading into the 2023-24 season in an article published Tuesday.
Las Vegas was listed at No. 3 on the list, with its group of emphasis being the cornerbacks.
Patra acknowledges that there are questions at the quarterback position and that there were no upgrades to the offensive line, but wrote that the cornerback room is "particularly bare."
Here was his analysis:
"David Long Jr. and Duke Shelley are currently pegged as the outside corners, but neither has been a full-time starter before. Nate Hobbs is a solid nickel. The group lacks a No. 1 and is counting on parts to create a whole. Adding a veteran to solidify the corps should be a priority before the season kicks off."
That veteran just might be free-agent cornerback Marcus Peters, who has met with the club this offseason.
The Raiders made some additions to the cornerback room through the draft, having selected Jakorian Bennett and Christopher Smith II. But to Patra's point, youth and inexperience might not be the answer.
Las Vegas did, however, bring back Brandon Facyson who had a break-out season in 2021 with the Raiders, having posted a career-best 55 combined tackles and 13 passes defensed while making nine starts in 12 games.
His familiarity with the Raiders could prove to be beneficial to both his game and the young players around him.
Patra's list also included the Kansas City Chiefs' edge rusher group (No. 10), the Jacksonville Jaguars' edge rusher group (No. 9), the Atlanta Falcons' wide receiver group (No. 8), the New Orleans Saints' defensive line (No. 7), the Baltimore Ravens' edge rusher group (No. 6), the Chicago Bears' defensive end group (No. 5), the Tennessee Titans' wide receiver group (No. 4), the entire Los Angeles Rams defense (No. 2), and the Arizona Cardinals' defensive front (No. 1).
