Raiders' DeAndre Carter on Competition in WR Room

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders signed wide receiver DeAndre Carter to a one-year contract during free agency.
Carter provides the Raiders with depth at wide receiver and a productive kickoff and punt returner. He joins a wide receiver room that features several new faces, all of whom are competing for spots on the team.
Being in a receiver room with so many other players who are on one-year contracts, training camp is a chance for those players to separate themselves and get snaps so that they can earn another contract.
Carter addressed the media at training camp and spoke about the talent in the wide receiver room and competing with every rep.
“I mean like you said, that’s everywhere around the league, but we’ve got a deep room, no lie,” Carter said. “We’ve got a deep room from top to bottom, and every rep you want to go out there and put your best foot forward to make sure you’re putting the best version of yourself on film and give yourself the best chance to go out there and compete and win the job.
"But that should be your standard as a player in the league no matter where you’re at, no matter how deep your receiver room is or not. You’re just trying to go out there and compete and be the best of yourself.”
Carter was one of several free agent wide receiver additions, including Phillip Dorsett, Cam Sims, and Jakobi Meyers. Carter, Sims and Dorsett received one-year contracts and will be fighting for snaps in a deep room.
Carter’s special teams acumen could give him an advantage for playing time, as he has been a kickoff and punt returner for several teams over his multi-year career. Even if he is not on the field on offense, he has a chance to carve out a role for himself as a specialist.
Carter is looking to compete with every rep during training camp in order to separate himself and earn more snaps. While he knows how talented the Raiders’ wide receiver room is, he wants to put the best version of himself out there and do what he can to help the team win.
The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
