The Las Vegas Raiders can set the tone early when they take on division rival, the Denver Broncos, in Week 1 of the 2023-24 season.

The Raiders have owned the series recently, having won eight of the last nine games, including the last six.

The first of that nine-game stretch was the last time the two teams faced off in Week 1, a matchup the Raiders won, 24-16. It was the last time the Broncos played in Oakland, as the Raiders would move to Las Vegas the following season.

The Silver and Black would start with a 14-0 lead at the half, thanks to a touchdown reception by former Raiders wide receiver Tyrell Williams in the first quarter and a rushing touchdown from running back Josh Jacobs, the first of his NFL career.

Jacobs posted 42 rushing yards in the first half.

Denver would slowly creep back after making a field goal early in the third quarter, followed by another one on its next possession by forcing the Raiders' first three-and-out of the contest.

The Broncos stopped the next Raiders drive, holding the home team scoreless in the third quarter.

That drought wouldn't last for long, as Jacobs would score his second touchdown on the Raiders' first possession of the fourth quarter.

Even so, on the next drive, the Broncos would answer with another field goal, trimming their deficit to 12.

Jacobs then collected 19 yards on the ensuing drive, ultimately setting up a field goal for Daniel Carlson to extend the lead back to 15.

Denver finally answered with a touchdown in the final minutes, with one last opportunity to stop the Raiders and get the ball back late.

But a 10-yard completion from former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr to Williams, followed by a 13-yard burst from Jacobs to cap off his 85-yard rushing performance, would solidify the season-opening victory for Oakland.

The Raiders will take on the Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High on Sept. 10.
