The Las Vegas Raiders are at risk to lose a key contributor on defense as the NFL free agency period begins this week.

Raiders linebacker Denzel Perryman will test free agency after he and the club were unable to agree upon a deal, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Friday.

In his two seasons with Las Vegas, Perryman has been a strong point on a rather underachieving Raiders defense.

The linebacker earned his first Pro Bowl selection in his first season with the Raiders, having registered a career-high 154 combined tackles, three passes defensed, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble in 15 starts.

Perryman returned this past season to play only 12 games due to a variety of injuries, including a dislocated shoulder that had him miss the final two games of the regular season.

Even so, the 30-year-old veteran finished the season with 83 combined tackles, two interceptions, two passes defensed, and a sack.

Perryman was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers (then San Diego) in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

In six seasons with the Chargers, Perryman totaled 349 combined tackles, six passes defensed, five sacks, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles in 69 games.

Perryman signed with the Carolina Panthers as an unrestricted free agent in March of 2021 before he was traded to Las Vegas that August.

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo.

March 13-15 is the free agent negotiation period. Starting at 12 p.m. EDT on March 13 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. EDT on March 15, clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2022 Player Contracts at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.

The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period begins at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
