Each new NFL season brings new breakout players on many teams on both sides of the ball.

Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Divine Deablo has a chance to be a breakout player in 2023. Heading into his third season with the Silver and Black, Deablo showed flashes of great play at the linebacker position during an injury-riddled 2022.

Deablo, who was a third round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech, made the switch to linebacker after playing defensive back with the Hokies. He posted 74 tackles in only eight games last season, which is reason to believe he can have a productive 2023 and possibly produce the best season of his career.

Jon Macri of Pro Football Focus listed Deablo as one of five breakout Individual Defensive Players, or IDP, at linebacker for the 2023 season.

IDP is a newer way to play fantasy football, where individual defensive players can be drafted and earn points for statistical production, similar to how offensive players are scored. Traditionally, overall defensive and special teams units are drafted and earn points for categories such as turnovers and fewest points allowed.

It makes sense that Deablo would be listed as a breakout candidate for fantasy football reasons, as he posted more than nine tackles per game last season. If he can stay healthy in 2023, he should have a big season that would translate to individual statistical success.

Deablo will have the opportunity to wear the green dot for Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham’s defense this season, so he should be in the middle of the action and constantly around the ball.

Deablo’s defensive skills allow him to have more speed than a traditional linebacker, so he can fly downhill to hit running backs or stick with tight ends and wide receivers over the middle of the field in coverage.

Deablo fits the mold of a modern day linebacker. The NFL is a passing league, so defenders have to be fast and be able to cover. Deablo is capable of both those things, and as long as he can stay healthy, 2023 could be the best statistical season of his career.
