There is no doubt that the Las Vegas Raiders defense struggled last season. According to Pro Football Focus, the Raiders defense allowed 418 points, ranked 26th overall in the NFL.

In hopes of fixing that statistic this season, the Raiders signed eight new players to their defense.

A question for the Raiders which will soon be answered in Training Camp and before the regular season begins, is which Raider free agent will impact the Raiders' defense?

The Raiders signed four new players to add to their secondary. One of those new players is safety Marcus Epps.

Epps was the most significant offseason signing the Raiders brought into their defense. He is entering his sixth season as a safety in the NFL. He has spent quality seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, playing in multiple playoff games and a Super Bowl.

Last season playing for the former NFC Champions, Epps finished with 94 combined tackles, 70 solos, and six passes defended. He has played 62 games throughout his career, with 209 combined tackles, 149 solos, and three interceptions.

The Raiders also finished the 2022-23 NFL season with issues at linebacker. In the hope of fixing their issues in the linebacker room, the Raiders signed veteran Robert Spillane, who is entering his fifth season as a veteran linebacker in the NFL.

Spillane has spent four years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and now joins the Silver and Black. He could be the most underrated player for the Raiders defense this season. Last season was the best Spillane has had in his NFL career. He finished with 79 total tackles, 52 solos, and one sack. He has a career total of 191 combined tackles, with 128 solos. He also has three career sacks.

As Training Camp approaches, watching which Raider free agent will impact the defense will be interesting.

The Las Vegas Raiders open training camp for the entire team on July 25, 2023.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
